Joanna Krupa ha desatado el malestar de la iglesia católica en EEUU al posar como un ángel y desnuda en la última campaña de PETA, la conocida asociación que promueve la adopción de animales abandonados y la no utilización de pieles de animales en abrigos y complementos de moda.
Junto al mensaje 'Se un ángel para los animales. Adopta siempre. Nunca compres', la modelo aparece levitando con el cuerpo desnudo y con alas blancas a la espalda, cubierta con una cruz estratégicamente colocada para cubrir los pechos y el pubis de la modelo.
Las campañas de PETA suelen siempre crear polémica. Recientemente, otras actrices y modelos han prestado su imagen para otras campañas, como Pamela Anderson, Alicia Silverstone y Keeley Hazel. Sin embargo, en esta ocasión la iglesia católica considera que PETA ha ido demasiado lejos y ha calificado el anuncio como 'inapropiado'.
Bill Donohue, presidente de la Liga Católica en Nueva York, ha criticado duramente a la asociación. 'Gatos y perros están mucho más seguros en las tiendas de mascotas que en manos de los activistas de PETA', ha asegurado. 'Además, las tiendas de mascotas no pervierten la iconografía cristiana'.
Este portavoz católico asegura que la asociación 'es un fraude'. 'Tiene un largo y vergonzoso historial de explotación de temas cristianos y judíos. Los que apoyan esta organización necesitan un curso de ética', sentencia.
A Joanna, que apareció recientemente en la serie Dancing with the Stars, le ha 'sorprendido' las críticas de la iglesia. 'Como católica practicante, me sorprende que la Liga Católica hable en contra de mi participación en la campaña de PETA'. 'Estoy haciendo lo que la Iglesia católica debería hacer, trabajar para detener el sufrimiento sin sentido de los animales, los seres más indefensos de la creación de Dios'.
