Un 62,54% de los electores habían votado a las 22.00 horas (20.00 GMT) al cierre de los colegios electorales para los comicios generales que se celebran hoy y mañana en Italia, lo que supone un descenso respeto al 66,53 a la anterior cita de 2006.
El descenso de la participación fue aumentando a lo largo del día, ya que a las 10:00 GMT habían votado un 16,35% de los electores italianos, respecto al 17,63% registrado a la misma hora en las elecciones de 2006.
A las 17:00 GMT, la afluencia era de 48,68%, en comparación con el 52,165% de 2006.
El Ministerio del Interior comunica sólo los datos de la afluencia para la renovación de la Cámara de los diputados, a la que tienen derecho los mayores de 18 años, y no los del Senado, donde es necesario tener más de 25 años para votar.
Los 61.212 colegios electorales abrieron a las 08.00 hora local (06.00 GMT) y permanecerán abiertos hoy hasta las 22.00 horas (20.00 GMT), mientras que mañana abrirán a las 05:00 GMT y se cerrarán a las 15.00 horas (13.00 GMT).
En estas elecciones generales tienen derecho a voto 47.295.978 ciudadanos mayores de 18 años (22.688.262 varones y 24.607.716 mujeres), para elegir a sus 618 representantes de la Cámara de los diputados, mientras son 43.257.208 quienes elegirán a 309 senadores (20.620.021 varones y 22.637.187 mujeres).
Los tres millones de italianos residentes en el extranjero, que tuvieron hasta el pasado jueves para votar, pueden elegir a 18 de sus propios representantes en el Parlamento (seis senadores y doce diputados).
