El cineasta taiwanés Ang Lee conquistó al público del pasado Festival Cannes durante la proyección de su último filme, Taking Woodstock, una comedia coral ambientada en el festival pero que evita los tópicos de sexo, drogas y rock & roll. Basada en las memorias de Elliot Tiber, un decorador de Nueva York que participó en la creación del festival, la cinta llegará a España en octubre y está protagonizada por el cómico Demetri Martin.
La cinta huye de viajes lisérgicos y orgías en furgonetas: transcurre a pocos kilómetros de los escenarios y relata las peripecias de decenas de personas que contribuyeron a hacer posible el evento. Hay hippies, pero también un ex combatiente de Vietnam, un disparatado grupo de teatro, un organizador de conciertos sin escrúpulos o un travestido que trabaja de guardaespaldas.
En Cannes, Lee dijo que se sintió atraído por la 'inocencia y la libertad del momento', y reconoció que 'ansiaba hacer una comedia, pero sin cinismo'. Para él, los sesenta culminan con Woodstock, 'el símbolo de una generación que tomó distancias con su mundo y que sembró una toma de conciencia que nosotros asumimos ahora', concluyó.
