Los equipos de rescate recuperaron hoy los cadáveres de quince trabajadores bajo los escombros de un puente en construcción que se derrumbó esta semana en el noroeste indio, por lo que se eleva a 22 la cifra de víctimas mortales en el siniestro, informó una fuente policial.
"Quince cadáveres más han sido recuperados hasta hoy, unos 20 todavía están desaparecidos", dijo el inspector general del municipio de Kota, donde tuvo lugar el siniestro, Rajeev Dasot, citado por la agencia PTI.
Dasot explicó que las tareas de rescate, en las que participan 200 trabajadores y otros tantos agentes policiales, así como miembros del Ejército, expertos en gestión de desastres y submarinistas, continúan para localizar a los desaparecidos.
En la tarde del jueves, un puente que se está construyendo sobre el río Chambal, en la carretera que une los municipios de Kota y Udaipur, en el turístico estado de Rajastán, se derrumbó cuando un centenar de personas se encontraba trabajando en el lugar del siniestro.
Hasta el momento, dos responsables de las empresas encargadas del proyecto han comparecido ante una corte local y permanecerán bajo custodia policial, al menos cinco días.
La construcción del puente de 1,4 kilómetros de longitud comenzó en 2007 con un presupuesto de 2.320 millones de rupias (unos 50 millones de dólares) y está previsto que finalice en 2011.
