Un grupo de las tropas españolas desplegadas en Afganistán sufrió el lunes un enfrentamiento que resultó sin bajas ni daños materiales, según un comunicado del Ministerio de Defensa.
Las unidades españolas, que pertenecían al Equipo de Reconstrucción Provincial (PRT, en sus siglas en inglés) y al Batallón Español de Maniobra, estaban acompañando a un convoy de 80 camiones de las tropas afganas cuando fueron atacados con fusiles y lanzagranadas cuando recorrían la ruta LITHIUM entre Qala-i-Naw y Bala Murghab.
Para repeler el ataque, las tropas españolas solicitaron apoyo aéreo a la Fuerza Internacional de Asistencia a la Seguridad (la misión internacional de la OTAN, ISAF en sus siglas en inglés).
Los aviones y helicópteros de ISAF, guiados por controladores avanzados españoles, bombardearon las posiciones de los insurgentes. El comunicado de defensa, colgado en su página web (http://www.mde.es), indicó desconocer el resultado del bombardeo.
