Kenenisa Bekele, atleta etíope que hoy intento batir el récord del mundo de 3.000 metros en la Reunión Internacional de Valencia, se quedó finalmente a más de once segundos (7:36.08) del registro que consiguió el keniata Daniel Komen en 1998 (7:24.90).
Bekele mantuvo un buen ritmo guiado por varias "liebres" hasta el paso por los 2.000 metros (5:02.26) y finalizó la prueba con una gran potencia, aunque finalmente no pudo batir el récord del mundo.
El registro logrado hoy por el etíope se queda además a seis segundos de su mejor marca y lejos también del mejor tiempo este año, en manos de su hermano menor Tariku Bekele (7:31.09 el pasado 2 de febrero en Sttugart, Alemania).
