Bridgestone no renovará un contrato de suministro de neumáticos para la Formula Uno después de que su acuerdo actual expire a finales de la temporada 2010, dijo el lunes el fabricante japonés.
Bridgestone, único proveedor de neumáticos para la máxima categoría del automovilismo deportivo desde el 2007, agregó que continuará en la F-1 durante la siguiente temporada pero que desea concentrarse en el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías y productos después de eso.
"La compañía se concentró en la necesidad de redirigir sus recursos hacia el desarrollo más intensivo de tecnologías innovadoras y productos estratégicos que apoyan sus objetivos y mejoran aún más su reputación como un líder tecnológico", dijo Bridgestone en un comunicado.
Bridgestone ha suministrado neumáticos de manera regular a la F-1 desde 1997 y se convirtió en su único proveedor un año antes de lo establecido, cuando Michelin se retiró después de la temporada 2006.
"Las lecciones aprendidas durante la exitosa participación de Bridgestone se han traducido en innovaciones que pueden ser aplicadas al diseño y la manufactura de neumáticos", indicó el comunicado.
"Además, su colaboración con la F-1 ha contribuido a incrementar el reconocimiento de la marca y el reconocimiento de Bridgestone como un líder en la industria global de neumáticos (...) Habiendo alcanzado esos objetivos, Bridgestone ahora está encaminada a llevar sus esfuerzos tecnológicos y de construcción de marca a un nivel más alto", agregó el texto.
