El británico Jenson Button (Brawn GP), líder del Mundial de Fórmula uno, se considera el mejor piloto de la historia y asegura que cuando no consigue él mismo la victoria en una carrera, le da igual quien sea el vencedor.
Ganador de seis de las ocho primeras carreras del Mundial 2009, Button domina el campeonato con 64 puntos frente a los 41 de su compañero de equipo, el brasileño Rubens Barrichello.
En una entrevista para el número de agosto de la revista GQ, y en respuesta a la pregunta de quien consideraba el mejor piloto de la historia, afirmó sin vacilar: "Yo soy el mejor".
Sobre la victoria de su compatriota Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) en el Mundial del año pasado, Button aseguró que carece de importancia para él: "No me interesa quien gana, si no soy yo quien lo hace. Sólo me preocupa ganar yo, y me siento celoso de cualquiera que consigue la victoria".
Button cree, no obstante, que el triunfo de Hamilton fue bueno para el deporte y también para el propio Button porque le permitió conseguir un gran coche, en alusión a la oferta del equipo Brawn.
En sólo un año, Button ha pasado de ser un piloto frecuentemente doblado a ser él quien dobla a todo un campeón del mundo, Lewis Hamilton, como ha ocurrido más de una vez.
No obstante, Button se mostró comprensivo con el actual campeón del mundo, que ocupa el undécimo puesto en el Mundial con sólo nueve puntos en 8 carreras.
"Ahora está en una difícil situación, la misma en que muchas veces me he visto yo con anterioridad, y es duro para él pero veremos de que pasta está hecho, creo que es fuerte mentalmente y es rápido, y saldrá de esta bien", declaró Button.
