Los Carabineros italianos (policía militarizada) detuvieron hoy a 39 personas al desarticular una red que producía y comercializaba, en Italia y en el extranjero, aceite de oliva adulterado y falsificado.
La investigación, a cargo de los Carabineros de Bari (este), estableció que al aceite de oliva se le añadía de manera fraudulenta aceite de semilla de soja y de girasol, además de sustancias como el betacaroteno y la clorofila industrial, según un comunicado.
Dicho producto, embotellado y con etiquetas falsas que hacían mención a empresas que no existen, era comercializado "tanto en el mercado nacional como en el extranjero".
Los arrestados han sido acusado de delitos que van desde la asociación de delincuentes con fines de fraude, a fraude comercial y falsificación y comercialización de sustancias alimentarias preparadas de forma peligrosa para la salud pública.
Con la operación policial, que ha supuesto la confiscación de siete fábricas de aceite, se pudo impedir la exportación de una "gran partida" de aceite falsificado a Estados Unidos y Alemania.
