La ministra de Defensa, Carme Chacón, ha lanzado hoy un mensaje de tranquilidad ante el riesgo sísmico en El Hierro y ha anunciado que viajará a primera hora de esta tarde a la isla para supervisar el dispositivo de evacuación, en el que la Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME) aporta unos 30 militares y 12 vehículos.
La titular de Defensa, en declaraciones a los periodistas tras mantener una videoconferencia con la misión en Somalia, ha manifestado que en las últimas horas se han registrado unos cien movimientos sísmicos en la isla, lo que ha llevado a activar a la UME.
Los militares, que acuden a la isla canaria para colaborar en las tareas de evacuación ante el riesgo sísmico que existe, también están capacitados para montar, si fuera necesario, un campamento de damnificados con capacidad para 2.000 personas, según ha explicado la ministra.
La UME se pondrá a disposición de las autoridades canarias y si estas lo requieren se incrementará la movilización, según ha indicado la ministra.
Sobre la situación, Chacón ha lanzado, en nombre del Gobierno, un mensaje de confianza, ya que el dispositivo puesto en marcha es de "prevención".
En este sentido, ha indicado que el Gobierno sigue la situación y está en permanente contacto con las autoridades autonómicas y locales canarias.
