Un hospital chino está siendo investigadoporque no informó la muerte de ocho recién nacidos porinfecciones a comienzos de este mes, señaló el jueves laagencia oficial de noticias Xinhua.
Las muertes, que se produjeron entre el 5 y el 15 deseptiembre, se debieron aparentemente a infecciones"iatrogénicas", que se producen en los hospitales con pocahigiene, y no por el consumo de la leche en polvo contaminadaque ha enfermado a miles de niños en China, indicó Xinhua.
Pero, al igual que en escándalo lácteo, las muertes en elHospital Número Uno de la Universidad de Xi'an Jiaotong, en laprovincia noroccidental de Shaanxi, habrían sido ocultadas,señaló el informe.
Dado que el hospital "no había informado (de las muertes) alas autoridades de salud, como se requiere", el Gobierno deShaanxi responsabiliza al centro por informar "tarde y demanera engañosa". El informe no especificó cómo manejó elhospital las muertes.
Las autoridades del centro médico no pudieron sercontactadas.
El Ministerio de Salud supo de las muertes de los reciénnacidos el martes, y el miércoles las autoridades provincialesordenaron cerrar la sala neonatal, además de un controlexhaustivo del hospital para prevenir un nuevo brote.
China está lidiando con un escándalo que involucra lacontaminación de fórmula láctea con el químico melamina, por elcual unos 13.000 bebés se enfermaron con problemas renales yotras complicaciones.
Cuatro infantes murieron debido a la ingesta de la lecheadulterada, que una compañía láctea y las autoridades localesocultaron a los funcionarios estatales y al público durantemeses.
