Las fuerzas de seguridad de Indonesia anunciaron hoy la detención de cinco sospechosos en relación a un presunto intento del islamismo radical de asesinar el pasado viernes al presidente, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Dos hombres fueron arrestados ayer en Bandung, en la isla de Java, y luego otros dos y una mujer fueron apresados al norte de la ciudad junto a un pequeño alijo de explosivos en una casa particular, según la agencia oficial Antara.
La Policía cree que todos son miembros de un grupo radical escindido de la Yemaa Islamiya, dirigido por el malasio Noordin Mohamed Top, el terrorista más buscado de la región hasta que el año pasado fue abatido durante un cerco policial.
Horas antes, el presidente indonesio había revelado una trama para acabar con su vida cuando visitó el viernes la provincia de Java Occidental, pero no dio más detalles.
Indonesia sufrió su último atentado terrorista en julio de 2009, cuando dos suicidas se inmolaron en dos hoteles de lujo de Yakarta y mataron a siete personas.
Siete años antes, 202 personas fallecieron en los ataques con bomba en la isla de Bali, atribuidos a la Yemaa Islamiya, considerada el brazo de Al Qaeda en el Sudeste Asiático pero ahora acorralada por las fuerzas de seguridad del país de mayor población musulmana del mundo.
Aquella matanza, según los expertos, fue ideada y coordinada por Top e instigada por el clérigo radical Abu Bakar Bashi, tachado de líder ideológico de los suicidas.
