El actor estadounidense George Clooney declaró hoy que sólo la suerte le permitió pasar de hacer "programas de televisión bastante malos" a largometrajes hasta convertirse en uno de los actores más importantes de Hollywood.
Durante una rueda de prensa hoy en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Toronto (TIFF) con motivo de la presentación de su último film, "The Descendants", Clooney reconoció que al principio de su carrera artística actuó en programas de televisión bastante malos".
"Hay un periodo en el que simplemente intentas trabajar. Y entonces tienes suerte. 'ER' (el programa de televisión) fue suerte. Íbamos a estar los viernes a las 10 de la noche. Y no habríamos hecho un tercio de los números que hicimos el jueves por la noche a las 10. Eso es suerte" añadió Clooney.
"Inmediatamente pasé del anonimato a ser capaz de aparecer en un film. Antes no lo conseguía. Tenía muchas audiciones y no lo conseguí. Eso fue suerte. No tenía nada que ver conmigo. Era el mismo actor que cuando leía dos líneas en un film", dijo.
En "The Descendants", un film dirigido por Alexander Payne ("About Schmidt", 2002, y "Sideways", 2004) y que se estrenó hoy en TIFF, Clooney interpreta a un padre que tiene que enfrentarse a la grave enfermedad de su esposa así como a una difícil relación con sus tres hijos.
Clooney también ha presentado en TIFF, que del 8 al 18 de septiembre celebra su XXXVI edición, su quinto film como director, y que también interpreta, produce y ha escrito, "The Ides of March".
El cotizado galán señaló que una de sus mayores influencias como director ha sido Sidney Lumet y calificó su película "Network" (1976) como "una pieza maestra".
El actor dijo que está más preocupado de la calidad de los filmes en los que participa que en los premios que obtienen.
"La verdad es que quiero hacer filmes que la gente recuerde y si haces 5 o 10 de ésos durante tu vida, entonces has ganado" concluyó.
