Colombia entregó el miércoles al Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU una nota diplomática sobre las amenazas de guerra que hizo en su contra el presidente de Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, pese a que después aclaró su posición en medio de la tensión diplomática entre los dos países.
El domingo, Chávez instó a sus soldados a preparar la guerra para asegurar la paz, con lo que aumentó la tensión entre los gobiernos de Venezuela y Colombia, país al que acusa de estar controlado por Estados Unidos para iniciar un conflicto bélico.
"La representante permanente de Colombia ante la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), Claudia Blum, entregó al presidente del Consejo de Seguridad, Thomas Mayr-Harting, una nota diplomática referente a las amenazas de Venezuela del uso de la fuerza en contra de Colombia y otros aspectos sensibles", dijo un comunicado de la cancillería.
"El Gobierno colombiano solicitó que dicha nota sea conocida por todos los Estados miembros del Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas", agregó.
Colombia presentó la nota ante el Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU como lo anunció después de las que calificó como "amenazas de guerra" las declaraciones del presidente de Venezuela.
Chávez rectificó sus declaraciones del fin de semana y el martes en la noche dijo que su llamamiento no fue a la guerra sino a defender a su país de la amenaza que significa el uso de siete bases militares por parte de Estados Unidos en Colombia.
La crisis en las relaciones de Colombia y Venezuela comenzó en julio, después de que Bogotá anunciara su disposición de facilitar el uso de siete de sus bases militares a Estados Unidos para realizar operaciones contra el narcotráfico y el terrorismo.
Chávez, el más fuerte crítico de Estados Unidos en la región, asegura desde entonces que el uso de las bases militares de Colombia forma parte de un plan de Washington para invadir a su país y bloquear la revolución bolivariana que dice impulsar a favor de los más pobres.
El dirigente izquierdista también ordenó llevar a cero el comercio binacional de más de 7.000 millones de dólares anuales.
