Un jurado popular declaró culpable de asesinato a Francisco Javier Prieto, por la muerte, por estrangulamiento, de la joven María del Mar Becerra, que tuvo lugar en la localidad coruñesa de Cedeira, el 1 de julio de 2006, cuando la víctima acudió a una falsa entrevista de trabajo.
El jurado, que estuvo deliberando desde ayer y cuyo veredicto se conoció pasadas las 13:00 horas de hoy, considera probado, por unanimidad, que el acusado "sabía lo que hacía", que actuó "de forma sorpresiva" y con "alevosía", preparando "una trampa mortal" a su víctima, razón por la que consideró que se trata de un asesinato y no de homicidio.
Consideró asimismo que no existían pruebas concluyentes de que aportase dinero a su madre, argumento esgrimido por la acusación particular para solicitar una indemnización económica a la progenitora de Mar Becerra, pero sí reconoció el jurado el término de convivencia.
Tras este fallo queda por determinar la pena, entre 15 y 20 años de prisión, de la que se encargará el magistrado del caso, que se espera se haga pública la próxima semana, según explicó la acusación particular, que además mantiene la petición de 145.000 euros en concepto de indemnización para la madre de la asesinada.
