La economía española cayó el 4% en el segundo trimestre del año respecto al mismo periodo de 2008, pero en comparación con el primer trimestre el ritmo de caída 'fue más contenido', con un descenso del 0,9%, según cálculos del Banco de España.
Si se confirman estos datos, se trataría de la cuarta caída del PIB en tasa intertrimestral, después de hacerlo el 0,2% en el tercer trimestre de 2008, el 1% en el cuarto y el 1,9% en el primero de este año, y del tercer descenso en tasa interanual tras el 0,7% y el 3% de los dos trimestres anteriores.
Para el organismo supervisor, aunque persiste la tendencia a la baja de la economía, el ritmo de caída es más 'contenido' y, en concreto, apunta a una cierta ralentización del descenso de la actividad y del ajuste del mercado laboral.
La moderación de la caída de la economía se produce en un entorno caracterizado por 'cierta normalización' de los mercados financieros y unas condiciones externas 'menos severas'.
Esta situación ha permitido detener las continuas revisiones a la baja en las previsiones de la economía mundial, aunque, advierte, no ha cambiado el diagnóstico sobre la duración de la recesión, que se prevé muy prolongada con una salida muy gradual.
Así, la economía española se sigue contrayendo como consecuencia, principalmente y de nuevo, de la caída de la demanda nacional -tanto del consumo como de la inversión-, que según el supervisor habría descendido el 6% en el segundo trimestre.
Además, el Banco de España insiste en que una reforma del mercado laboral es 'clave' para una recuperación económica 'sólida', al tiempo que critica la 'rigidez' del sistema vigente de negociación colectiva, que 'tiende a exacerbar la segmentación del mercado de trabajo' y hace aumentar el paro.
Así se desprende del último Boletín Económico del Banco de España que indica que los mecanismos de ajuste del mercado de trabajo español frente a la crisis económica 'no funcionan de forma adecuada', tal como refleja la evolución de la tasa de desempeo.
Señala que la destrucción de puestos de trabajo en España está siendo 'más acusada' que en otros países desarrollados, aún teniendo en cuenta las peculiaridades del caso español, como es el peso del sector de la construcción.
