La eléctrica española Iberdrola informó hoy de que su área de negocio en Latinoamérica obtuvo un beneficio neto de 114,7 millones de euros, unos 181 millones de dólares, en el primer trimestre del año, lo que supone el 17,4 por ciento más que en el mismo periodo de 2007.
Iberdrola, la primera eléctrica española por capitalización, precisó que la cifra de negocio creció el 38,9 por ciento, hasta alcanzar los 849,7 millones de euros (1.342,5 millones de dólares), por el incremento de la producción y la distribución eléctrica en la región.
El resultado bruto de explotación (EBITDA), añadió la eléctrica, fue de 210,3 millones de euros (332,2 millones de dólares), el 4,9 por ciento superior al del primer trimestre del año pasado, mientras que el beneficio neto de explotación (EBIT) creció el 6,1 por ciento, hasta los 166,4 millones de euros (262,9 millones dólares).
México y Guatemala aportaron al EBITDA logrado por la eléctrica española en la región 75,1 millones de euros (118,6 millones de dólares), el 7,8 por ciento menos, y Sudamérica (Brasil fundamentalmente) 1.358 millones de euros (2.145 millones de dólares), el 13,5 por ciento más.
El efecto del tipo de cambio fue casi neutro, ya que su influencia negativa en México y Guatemala fue compensada por la apreciación del real brasileño respecto al euro.
La generación de la región aumentó el 39,5 por ciento, hasta los 9.131 gigavatios-hora (GWh), principalmente por la aportación de los ciclos combinados que la eléctrica tiene en México, donde cuenta con una potencia instalada de 4.950 megavatios (MW).
