Un barco de la Marina francesa interceptó el miércoles una embarcación de pesca en la que viajaban unos 300 supuestos inmigrantes ilegales que fueron escoltados a la isla de Lampedusa, frente a Sicilia, según las autoridades francesas.
La embarcación gala, que forma parte de una patrulla de fronteras de la Unión Europea, había recogido el martes otra patera con 65 supuestos inmigrantes ilegales, de acuerdo con un comunicado emitido el jueves por las autoridades marítimas marsellesas.
La patera tenía dificultades para navegar y se encontraba unos 150 kilómetro al sureste de Lampedusa.
El Gobierno italiano declaró el estado de emergencia en julio debido a un aumento en el número de inmigrantes ilegales que intentaban cruzar el Mediterráneo para llegar a Italia.
Miles de inmigrantes ilegales que salen de África, a menudo en embarcaciones frágiles y abarratodas, han muerto cuando intentaban el viaje.
