El fotógrafo iraquí de la agencia de noticias estadounidense Associated Press (AP) Bilal Husein, detenido por las tropas de EEUU desde hace más de dos años, fue liberado hoy, según anunció el mando militar estadounidense en Bagdad.
La oficina de prensa de las tropas de la coalición en Bagdad informó de que Bilal, de 36 años, fue entregado a la oficina de AP en Bagdad.
Las fuerzas estadounidenses ya habían anunciado el pasado lunes que Husein, que estaba acusado de tener vínculos con la insurgencia suní, sería liberado hoy.
En un comunicado, la coalición indicó que la decisión se tomó después de que los comités judiciales iraquíes concediesen a Husein la amnistía por todos los delitos de los que se le acusaba.
"Después de la decisión que han tomado los comités judiciales iraquíes, hemos revisado la situación de Husein y hemos determinado que ya no representa una amenaza imperativa a la seguridad", dijo el general Douglas M. Stone, que firmó la puesta en libertad.
Husein, de 36 años, empezó a trabajar para AP en 2004 y fotografió numerosas escenas en Faluya y Ramadi, territorios donde había tenido lugar una gran actividad insurgente, antes de ser detenido por tropas estadounidenses en su domicilio.
