Los candidatos de la oposición en Bielorrusia no ganaron ningún escaño en las elecciones de este fin de semana, con las que el presidente Alexander Lukashenko esperaba promover unas mejores relaciones con Occidente.
"No hay nadie de la oposición en el Parlamento", dijo el secretario de la Comisión Electoral Central, Nikolai Lazovik, a Reuters.
Lukashenko quiere estrechar las relaciones con Occidente tras una serie de disputas sobre los precios del gas con su aliado clave, Rusia. Ha puesto en libertad a presos políticos y permitido a 78 candidatos de la oposición competir el domingo por algunos de los 110 escaños del Parlamento.
Sin embargo, la falta de representación de la oposición en el Parlamento podría complicar sus esfuerzos para lograr la aprobación de Occidente.
"Esto escupe en la cara de la comunidad europea", dijo Alexander Kozulin, un líder de la oposición liberado el mes pasado, a Reuters, refiriéndose a los resultados de las elecciones.
Los observadores de la Organización para la Seguridad y la Cooperación en Europa (OSCE) tienen previsto informar el lunes sobre si consideran que los comicios fueron libres y justos.
"La OSCE está en una posición bastante sensible", dijo Kozulin. "Necesitan realizar cierta evaluación positiva, pero lo tendrán difícil después de lo que ha pasado".
Ninguna elección en la ex república soviética, situada entre Rusia y tres países de la Unión Europea, ha logrado aprobación occidental desde mediados de los noventa.
