El expresidente del Congreso y 'padre' de la Constitución, Gregorio Peces-Barba, ha afirmado hoy que Manuel Fraga "pasará a la historia como un hombre de estado" y como una persona que llevaba "absolutamente dentro la política".
Peces-Barba, en declaraciones a Efe, ha dicho que se consideraba un "buen amigo" de Fraga, a pesar de que la distancia que les separaba era "abismal desde el punto de vista ideológico".
El expresidente de la Cámara Baja ha reconocido que hasta antes de la aprobación de la Constitución, no compartía sus "comportamientos", pero la democracia le ayudó a rehabilitar su pasado franquista.
"Desde entonces, fuimos muy amigos", ha confesado el catedrático emérito de la Universidad Carlos III.
En su opinión, Fraga será recordado como "un hombre de estado" y una persona "muy institucional", virtud que "le controlaba sus posiciones radicales o muy partidistas".
Ha convenido en la expresión que el exjefe del Gobierno Felipe González empleó en una ocasión para describir a Fraga: "Tenía todo el Estado en la cabeza". "Es algo muy cierto", ha añadido Peces-Barba.
El expresidente del Congreso ha destacado que Fraga fue del sector "reformista" durante el franquismo y en esta etapa "dio una de cal y otra de arena", al permitir cierta apertura a publicaciones críticas con la dictadura.
