La confusión se ha apoderado de la entrega de premios de La Mostra cuando el León de Plata ha sido entregado al ganador del premio especial del jurado y viceversa, un entuerto entre Paul Thomas Anderson y Ulrich Seidl que ha sido solucionado por Laetitia Casta, miembro del jurado oficial.
'Hemos cometido un pequeño error', ha dicho Laetitia Casta a mitad de la gala y, entonces, ha intercambiado las estatuillas entre el director austríaco Ulrich Seidl (que había recogido el León de Plata en vez del premio especial del jurado por Paradise: Faith) y Philip Seymour Hoffman, que de parte de Paul Thomas Anderson había vivido la situación inversa con su película The Master.
Teniendo en cuenta que una errónea traducción del discurso en inglés del presidente del jurado, Michael Mann, se había asegurado que no habría más de un premio por película y The Master recogía minutos después también la Copa Volpi para sus protagonistas, la gala se acercó por momentos a una accidentada comedia a la italiana.
Afortunadamente, no hubo fallo a la hora de anunciar que Pietà, de Kim Ki-duk, se hacía con el máximo premio, el León de Oro, con el que se ha cerrado la 69 edición de La Mostra Internacional de Cine de Venecia, que comenzó el día 29 de agosto y por la que han pasado estrellas como Robert Redford, Zac Efron, Winona Ryder y Selena Gómez.
