La policía italiana registró el hotel del equipo de ciclismo Luxembourg, después de que unas noticias relacionaran al ciclista Frank Schleck con una investigación por dopaje, anunció el sábado un fiscal.
Schleck tiene previsto competir el domingo en la prueba masculina en carretera en los Campeonatos del Mundo, que se celebran estos días en Varese, en el norte de Italia.
"Hemos abierto una investigación que atenderá a cualquier eventualidad", dijo a los periodistas el fiscal de Varese Maurizio Grigo, sin añadir si se había encontrado algo durante los registros.
Después de que los medios le relacionaran el viernes con el escándalo del dopaje de la "operación Puerto" llevada a cabo el año pasado en España, el ciclista les dijo a los periodistas que tenía la conciencia tranquila y no había hecho nada malo.
Un empleado del hotel, que pidió que no se le identificara, dijo a Reuters que el registro había durado de las 20:00 del viernes a las 04:30 de la madrugada.
El presidente de la Unión Ciclista Internacional (UCI), Pat McQuaid, dijo que aún se espera que Schleck compita el domingo.
"En este momento correrá, no tenemos pruebas para impedírselo. Lo que pienso y lo que son las normas es distinto", dijo en una rueda de prensa, añadiendo que la UCI espera tener acceso a cualquier documento que pudiese implicar al ciclista.
