Líder de la Premier y en octavos de final en la Liga de Campeones, el técnico español Rafael Benítez está convencido de que el Liverpool logrará mantenerse en lo más alto de la general cuando se reanude, en febrero, la competición europea.
Los "reds" suman 37 puntos en el torneo inglés, uno más que el Chelsea del brasileño Luiz Felipe Scolari y concluyeron la fase de grupos de la "Champions" como ganadores del grupo D, por encima del Atlético de Madrid.
"Ahora tenemos casi tres meses para concentrarnos en la Premier y en la Copa. Nos gustaría volver a Europa el próximo año como líderes de la Liga", señaló el "míster" español a los medios británicos.
El técnico tiene claro que su equipo debe centrarse en sus quehaceres domésticos. "No queremos ceder el liderato, si seguimos ahí cuando volvamos a Europa, tendremos muchas ocasiones de hacer una gran temporada".
Además, habló de su decisión de dejar debutar en Europa, en el partido disputado el martes contra el PSV Eindhoven, que ganaron a domicilio por 1-3, a los tres jóvenes jugadores Stephen Darby, Jay Spearing y Martin Kelly, naturales de la ciudad de Liverpool.
