Un total de 5,71 millones de italianos eligen hoy y mañana en segunda vuelta 43 ayuntamientos, entre ellos Roma, y cinco diputaciones provinciales, en unos comicios en los que la atención se centra en el duelo capitalino.
En Roma se enfrentan el ex alcalde y ex ministro Francesco Rutelli, del progresista Partido Democrático (PD), y el ex ministro Gianni Alemanno, por el conservador Pueblo de la Libertad (PDL), del futuro presidente del Gobierno Silvio Berlusconi.
De los 43 ayuntamientos, siete son capitales de provincia: Roma, Sondrio, Vicenza, Massa, Pisa, Viterbo y Udine.
Las diputaciones provinciales que se renuevan son las de Roma, Asti, Massa Carrara, Foggia y Catanzaro.
De los 5.716.839 italianos llamados a las urnas en estos comicios parciales, 2.983.972 son mujeres y 2.732.867 varones.
Los 6.566 colegios electorales abrieron a las 08.00 locales (06.00 GMT) y cerrarán a las 22.00 locales. Mañana se votará de 07.00 a 15.00 horas. Después comenzará el escrutinio.
Según el Ministerio de Interior, a las doce de la mañana (10.00 GMT) había votado el 12,34 por ciento para los ayuntamientos y el 10,27 por ciento para las diputaciones provinciales.
