El sorteo para la fase de grupos de la Copa de la UEFA 2008-2009 se celebrará a las 12:00 de la mañana del martes 7 de octubre, en la sede de la UEFA en Nyon (Suiza).
Los 40 participantes serán divididos en ocho grupos de cinco, de acuerdo con el coeficiente del club. La primera urna comprenderá los ocho conjuntos con mejor puntuación, la segunda incluirá a los siguientes, y así en adelante.
Los clubes de un mismo país no podrán quedar encuadrado en un mismo grupo y cada equipo, como es habitual desde que se implantó este sistema de competición, jugará dos partidos en casa y dos como visitante.
