Una nave espacial Soyuz rusa con tres astronautas despegó el lunes desde Kazajistán para unirse a la pareja ruso-estadounidense que tripula la Estación Espacial Internacional (EEI).
El ruso Oleg Kotov, Timothy Creamer de la NASA y el japonés Soichi Noguchi despegaron desde el cosmódromo Baikonur de Rusia en Kazajistán como estaba previsto, a las 00:52 hora de Moscú (21:52 GMT del domingo).
"Atención, nave espacial Soyuz TMA-17, ha alcanzado con éxito su órbita designada", dijo el control de la misión.
Cuando se acoplen a la EEI el 23 de diciembre, los tres astronautas se unirán al estadounidense Jeff Williams y al ruso Maxim Suraev, que llevan desde octubre tripulando la estación de miles de millones de dólares. Los cinco hombres serán la expedición número 22 de la EEI.
Los socios de Rusia en la explotación de la EEI son la agencia espacial estadounidense NASA, la Agencia Espacial Europea y las agencias espaciales de Japón y Canadá. Moscú ha dicho que pretende ampliar la vida de la EEI de 100.000 millones de dólares más allá de 2015.
Este año, Rusia duplicó hasta cuatro el número de vuelos tripulados a la EEI a bordo de naves espaciales Soyuz, y pretende encargarse del envío de misiones y cargas al espacio cuando la NASA retire su anticuada flota de transbordadores espaciales el próximo año o a principios de 2011.
