El fabricante de automóviles indio Tata Motors planea introducir el Nano, el coche más barato del mundo, en Europa en 2011, anunció su presidente el martes.
Sin embargo, la versión europea del que ha sido bautizado como "coche del pueblo" sería diferente a la india, pues tendría que satisfacer otras normas de seguridad y emisiones, dijo Ratan Tata a los periodistas en una feria automovilística en la ciudad suiza de Ginebra.
"No será el mismo coche, pero será muy, muy asequible", agregó.
Tata Motors comenzará a vender el Nano el mes que viene en el mercado indio por un precio inferior a 2.000 dólares.
Tata dijo que es demasiado pronto para saber cuánto costaría la versión europea, que se llamará Nano Europa.
La compañía introducirá otros dos modelos en el Europa en los próximos años. En 2010, fabricará un coche eléctrico. Un año más tarde, introducirá el Prima, una berlina de alta gama presentada en la feria.
Tata Motors ya vende cuatro modelos en España, Italia y Polonia. Entre ellos, una 'pick-up' y un tres puertas.
