El portal de búsqueda de Internet Google admitió haber digitalizado más de 20.000 libros que se encontraban bajo la protección de los derechos de autor de China, informó hoy el diario China Daily. Según la prensa, la compañía estadounidense hizo hincapié en que los libros chinos fueron digitalizados de las bibliotecas de EEUU y algunos de ellos estaban disponibles para uso público.
El pasado 21 de octubre, la Sociedad China de Derechos de Autor (CWWCS) acusó a Google de digitalizar sin permiso y colocar en su biblioteca digital, Google Books, las obras de numerosos escritores chinos.
Tras una estimación aproximada de la CWWCS, la empresa estadoundense ya ha incluido en su biblioteca digital cerca de 18.000 libros de 570 autores chinos, sin informar o pagar a la mayoría de los escritores. Zhang Hongbo, subdirector de la Sociedad, aseguró que se reunirá con Erik Hartmann, responsable en Asia-Pacífico de Google Books, el próximo 16 de noviembre, para que la compañía estadounidense ofrezca una lista completa de los libros chinos digitalizados. Además, afirma que resolver el problema dependerá de las futuras negociaciones y pide a la empresa que se disculpe.
Más de 50 escritores han firmado un carta de protesta en la que exigen a Google sus disculpas y las correspondientes compensacines, agregaron los medios locales.
