El fabricante japonés de videojuegos Nintendo tiene previsto lanzar a final de año un nuevo modelo de su consola portátil DS que podrá hacer fotos y reproducir música.
El lanzamiento enfrentaría a la consola portátil de Nintendo con los teléfonos móviles con cámara en general y algunos accesorios que se han desarrollado para PSP, la consola portátil de Sony.
Se espera que el precio de la nueva máquina, que también incluiría funciones de comunicación móvil, esté por debajo de los 20.000 yenes en Japón (unos 129 euros), frente a los 16.800 del modelo actual, de acuerdo al diario. El modelo de consola DS que se comercializa actualmente en España se vende a 150 euros.
Las consolas Wii y DS han sido los dos motores de crecimiento de Nintendo, haciendo que su cuota de mercado creciera a más del triple en los últimos tres años, después de atravesar unos años de incertidumbre debido a la escasa aceptación de su anterior máquina GameCube.
A escala mundial, la consola DS supera de lejos las ventas de su rival más directa, la PlayStation Portable (PSP) de Sony, pero en Japón las ventas de PSP han superado a las del modelo de Nintendo en los últimos cinco meses, según la editora de revistas de juegos Enterbrain, en lo que podría ser un signo de pérdida de fuerza del modelo actual.
