Dos de los cuatro periodistas italianos secuestrados ayer en Libia cuando se dirigían en automóvil a Trípoli desde la localidad occidental de Zawiya han podido llamar a sus familiares y han asegurado que se encuentran bien.
Los secuestrados son Claudio Monici, enviado de 'Avvenire', el rotativo de la Conferencia Episcopal Italiana (CEI), Domenico Quirico, del turinés 'La Stampa', y de Elisabetta Rosaspina y Giuseppe Sarcina, ambos del milanés 'Corriere della Sera'.
Poco después de su captura, Monici habló con sus familiares y su diario y aseguró que, a pesar de haber sido golpeados y haberles robado sus teléfonos, las carteras y otros enseres, se encontraban bien.
Durante la noche también los secuestradores permitieron a Quirico ponerse en contacto con su casa y confirmar que se encuentran en buen estado, según explicó el director de 'Corriere della Sera', Ferruccio de Bortoli, quien sin embargo no ha podido hablar con los redactores de su diario.
Según la descripción de Monici y del cónsul italiano en Bengasi, Guido De Sanctis, los periodistas se encuentran retenidos en un apartamento en Trípoli, ubicado entre la fortaleza del coronel Muamar el Gadafi de Bab El Aziziya y el hotel Rixos, donde se aloja la prensa internacional, y desde la ventana se ve un gran centro comercial que pertenecía a la hija del coronel, Aisha.
Durante la llamada telefónica de Monici a sus colegas en Italia, también informó que el conductor del vehículo que les transportaba fue asesinado durante el secuestro. Monici señaló que los asaltantes eran civiles y que posteriormente les entregaron a las fuerzas militares fieles al régimen de Gadafi. En un comunicado, la presidencia del Gobierno italiano señaló que sigue con atención la evolución de caso y que mantiene constantes contactos con su Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores.
