La Unión Europea ha expresado hoy su 'honda preocupación' por la 'desproporcionada' condena de la que ha sido objeto en China, por supuesta subversión, el disidente político Liu Xiaobo, coautor de la llamada 'Carta 08' que instaba a la reforma política.
En un comunicado emitido en nombre de los Veintisiete, la presidencia de turno sueca de la Unión expresa su 'honda preocupación' por la condena a 11 años de cárcel y critica la falta de libertad en China.
'El veredicto contra Liu suscita preocupación por lo que respecta a la libertad de expresión y al derecho a un juicio justo en China', afirma la declaración europea.
Liu Xiaobo, uno de los disidentes políticos más conocidos de China, ha sido condenado hoy a 11 años de cárcel por 'incitar a actividades de agitación destinadas a derrocar al Gobierno', según la agencia oficial Xinhua.
Un tribunal de Pekín le condenó como coautor de un documento que en 2008 instaba a la reforma política, en un juicio rápido criticado por Occidente.
La condena destaca que Liu 'incitó a la subversión contra el poder estatal'.
Escritor y ex profesor universitario, Liu estaba encarcelado desde 2008 cuando fue detenido acusado de haber escrito la 'Carta 08' pidiendo mayores libertades y reformas democráticas en China además del fin del régimen comunista de partido único.
