La selección se proclamó campeona de la primera Eurocopa de Fútbol en pista al derrotar a Rusia en la final disputada en el pabellón de la Fuente de San Luis de Valencia ante 5.000 espectadores por un marcador de 10-11, tras la prórroga.
El inicio del partido fue muy favorable para los rusos, que con dos rechaces y dos ataques se colocaron 4-0 en el marcador a los 15 minutos, con los de Fusté estrellándose una y otra vez ante Kharin para llegar al descanso con un desfavorable 5-1.
Los españoles asediaron la portería rusa en la segunda mitad, pero también una vez más el guardameta ruso se mostró casi infranqueable en todas las acciones atacantes de su rival.
Pero el empuje del público y la magistral zurda de Fran llevó a España a empatar el partido a siete tantos en el tiempo de prolongación, llevando el envite a una prórroga que acabó con el triunfo de España.
Portugal acabó tercera en este campeonato tras derrotar a Italia por 9-6, mientras que Holanda fue quinta al ganar en la tanda de penaltis a Francia, después de que el encuentro concluyera con empate a once goles.
