Los Veintisiete aprobaron hoy de manera oficial prorrogar hasta octubre de 2010 los derechos de despegue y aterrizaje en los aeropuertos europeos para evitar que debido a la crisis las aerolíneas efectúen vuelos sin pasajeros para mantener los "slots" (permisos de vuelo).
Los ministros de Empleo y Asuntos Sociales de la Unión Europea, reunidos en Luxemburgo, dieron luz verde como punto sin debate a la medida que el Parlamento Europeo ya había respaldado el pasado 7 de mayo.
La Comisión Europea presentó la propuesta en marzo como vía de ayuda a las aerolíneas ante la crisis económica, que ha obligado a las compañías a reducir su capacidad debido al descenso en el número de pasajeros.
La decisión, que afecta sólo a la temporada estival -entre abril y octubre de 2010-, supone la eliminación temporal de la norma conocida como "se usa o se pierde" que obliga a los operadores a utilizar al menos el 80 por ciento de sus derechos de despegue y aterrizaje si quiere mantenerlos de una temporada a otra.
Las autoridades europeas ya tomaron medidas similares ante otras situaciones excepcionales, por ejemplo, tras los atentados del 11-S.
