Más de doce supuestos insurgentes han muerto en bombardeos aéreos lanzados por las tropas de la coalición liderada por EEUU contra refugios talibanes en la provincia afgana oriental de Khost, informó hoy el mando militar estadounidense.
Las tropas "planearon y coordinaron" las ofensivas aéreas tras confirmar la actividad de insurgentes de la red Haqqani, a quienes la comandancia de EEUU responsabiliza del paso de combatientes extranjeros a través de la frontera en áreas montañosas de la provincia, según un comunicado.
Un avión de combate de la coalición destruyó dos búnkers supuestamente utilizados por cabecillas de la organización durante la ofensiva, en la que "más de una docena" de insurgentes perdieron la vida, añade.
De acuerdo con la versión militar, la red Haqqani es una de las "organizaciones talibanes más letales" que lleva a cabo sus actividades fuera de las zonas tribales paquistaníes, fronterizas con Afganistán.
La red está controlada presuntamente por el ex muyahidín Jalaludín Haqqani y su hijo Sirajudín desde Pakistán, actúa en colaboración con otros grupos armados y tiene como principales objetivos las fuerzas seguridad afganas e internacionales, así como intereses gubernamentales.
Las tropas de la coalición liderada por EEUU, que actúan independientemente de las fuerzas de la OTAN, son fundamentalmente estadounidenses y están bajo mando directo de Washington.
