Irak volvió a estremecerse esta mañana con dos atentados en el día en que fue detenido la máxima autoridad de Al Qaeda en el país.
El primer ataque fue llevado a cabo por un terrorista suicida que se inmoló entre un grupo de gente que recolectaba víveres repartidos por agentes de Policía en el barrio de Al Qarrada, según las informaciones de los agentes iraquíes. 28 personas murieron y más de cincuenta resultaron heridas. Entre los 50 heridos hay al menos diez policías y cinco niños. Muchas de las víctimas se encuentran en estado grave, entre las que hay cinco niños.
El segundo atentado, en el noroeste de la capital iraquí, acabó con la vida de al menos 45 personas, la mayoría peregrinos iraníes que almorzaban en un restaurante. Las fuentes dijeron que el número de muertos puede aumentar en las próximas horas por la gravedad de las lesiones de los heridos. La explosión fue tan fuerte que el techo del restaurante se desplomó.
Estos atentados se producen cinco días después de que el primer ministro iraquí, Nuri al Maliki, advirtiera de un posible rebrote de la violencia sectaria y pidiera unidad al país para "cerrar el paso a los enemigos de Irak".
"Debemos ser muy cautelosos porque la discordia sectaria podría volver a instalarse entre nosotros. De la misma forma que trabajamos a favor del país, los enemigos trabajan para hacerle daño", dijo Maliki en un discurso ante miembros de la tribu de los Bani Tamin.
