Al menos cinco personas murieron el lunes tras derrumbarse un edificio en Palma de Mallorca por causas desconocidas, según confirmaron portavoces del Ayuntamiento.
"Se han encontrado entre uno y dos muertos más", indicó por teléfono una portavoz que se encontraba en el lugar del derrumbe. "Hasta ahora se había confirmado la muerte de cuatro personas, dos hombres y dos mujeres, una de ellas una menor", añadió.
Antes, otra portavoz había indicado que había ocho personas empadronadas en el edificio y que los bomberos estaban trabajando con perros en busca de más personas que hubieran podido quedar atrapadas entre los escombros.
La alcaldesa de Palma de Mallorca, Aina Calvo, descartó que una explosión de gas fuera la causa del derrumbe, tal y como habían informado en un principio algunos medios.
"Se manejan varias hipótesis", comentó. "Parecía que no se hubiera producido una explosión, y efectivamente los técnicos acaban de descartar esa hipótesis".
Los técnicos de urbanismo locales están evaluando el estado de estas viviendas y continúan investigando la causa del colapso.
Se han desalojado tres edificios colindantes, lo que supone la evacuación de 20 personas, concretó la portavoz del Ayuntamiento en el lugar.
