La cantante Alicia Keys ha obligado a la tabaquera indonesia que vende Mild, filial del gigante estadounidense Philip Morris, a retirar su imagen de la publicidad en la campaña de promoción de un concierto que ofrece hoy en Yakarta.
"Soy una defensora implacable del bienestar de los niños en todo el mundo y no apruebo o apoyo el hábito de fumar", señaló Alicia Keys, en una carta publicada por su discográfica, Sony BMG Music Entertainment.
En la misiva, la artista estadounidense instó a Philip Morris a que dejase de promocionar su actuación musical en Indonesia, algo a lo que la tabacalera ha accedido, según anunció esta empresa en un comunicado, "después de considerar los hechos de este caso específico".
No obstante, la compañía recordó que es materia de un "debate serio" el hecho de "si la promoción de acontecimientos musicales por parte de marcas de tabaco lleva a los jóvenes a fumar".
Con cerca de 240 millones de habitantes, Indonesia es uno de los mayores mercados del mundo para las empresas tabaqueras, pero el país carece de una regulación específica sobre la publicidad del tabaco.
Según la Organización Mundial para la Salud (OMS), el 34,4% de la población adulta indonesia consume cigarrillos de forma habitual, un porcentaje que alcanza el 63% entre los hombres y el 26,8% entre los jóvenes.
