El número de víctimas mortales en el doble atentado perpetrado hoy en la ciudad de Mosul contra el gobernador de la provincia de Nínive, Duraid Kashula, asciende a 18, según fuentes del Ministerio del Interior iraquí.
Las fuentes agregaron que la doble explosión ha dejado también 70 heridos.
La policía había informado en un primer momento que en el atentado había muerto ocho personas y otras 20 habían resultado heridas.
Un artefacto colocado en el arcén de la carretera hizo explosión al paso del convoy del gobernador cuando este visitaba un mercado en Bab al Tub, en el centro de esta ciudad, 400 kilómetros al norte de Bagdad.
Pocos minutos después, un coche bomba hizo explosión en el mismo lugar del anterior atentado.
El gobernador ha salido ileso, aunque, dos miembros de su guardia personal se encuentran entre las víctimas mortales.
Otros cinco guardaespaldas del responsable provincial resultaron heridos en el ataque.
Kashmula ha salido ileso de varios intentos de asesinato contra él en los últimos meses.
La red terrorista de Al Qaeda en Irak ha amenazado en repetidas ocasiones con vengar la ofensiva militar que en estos momentos el Ejército iraquí ha emprendido contra ellos en Nínive.
