El pleno del Ayuntamiento del municipio tarraconense de Ascó votó el martes a favor de presentar su candidatura para acoger el Almacén Temporal Centralizado de residuos nucleares, desafiando de esta forma el rechazo explícito hecho público por el presidente de la Generalitat de Cataluña, José Montilla.
La moción de albergar el silo nuclear fue aprobada por siete votos a favor y dos en contra en un pleno celebrado con gran tensión.
"Tenemos la oportunidad de adelantarnos al futuro y (...) empezar a construir hoy un Ascó responsable que haga más segura la gestión de combustible, un Ascó solidario que generará controversia pero sin duda aportará al a economía de la comarca unos ingresos notables", declaró el alcalde de Ascó, Rafael Vidal, antes de la votación.
La ubicación del cementerio nuclear, cuyo plazo para presentar candidaturas acaba a finales de mes, ha generado polémica y ha dividido a partidos políticos y administraciones locales y autonómicas.
La candidatura de Ascó, que ya cuenta con una central nuclear en su término municipal, se suma a la de la localidad alcarreña de Yebra, que anunció su decisión de optar al cementerio nuclear la semana pasada.
