El presidente de la Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (LFP), José Luis Astiazarán, presentó este martes su dimisión como primer requisito para que se adelante el proceso electoral a la presidencia, a la que volverá a optar, según anunció este organismo.
El mandato de Astiazarán finalizaba el próximo julio y para presentar de nuevo su candidatura debe estar avalada al menos por un 25% de la Asamblea General de la Liga, que es el órgano que elige al presidente.
Según explicó la LFP, durante el proceso electoral los dos vicepresidentes, Javier Tebas y Jaime Barriuso, ostentarán la presidencia provisional junto al secretario general, Carlos del Campo, en cumplimiento del artículo 41 de los Estatutos.
El próximo jueves 16 de abril se constituirá una Comisión Electoral, que estará compuesta por los dos clubes más antiguos y el más moderno de Primera (Liga BBVA) -Recreativo, Athletic Club y Almería- y también el más antiguo y más moderno de Segunda (Liga Adelante) -Murcia y Huesca-.
Tras ello se establecerán los plazos de presentación y proclamación de candidaturas, así como la fecha de la votación para la elección de presidente, en caso de ser necesario. El proceso electoral debe desarrollarse en un plazo inferior a 45 días desde la constitución de la Comisión Electoral.
"Los importantes proyectos en los que la LFP trabaja, junto a las tareas propias de cierre de temporada y apertura de la nueva que se han de producir en esas fechas, han hecho recomendable este adelanto" en las elecciones, según indicó la patronal de clubes.
José Luis Astiazarán Iriondo fue proclamado presidente de la LFP el 15 de julio de 2005 tras ser el único aspirante al cargo después de haberlo ejercido en funciones durante un año tras la marcha de Pedro Tomás, con quien ocupó el puesto de vicepresidente primero.
