El Atlético de Madrid, con su triunfo ante el Sporting de Gijón (3-1), ya ha marcado más goles en 33 jornadas que en toda la pasada temporada de Liga, por lo que ya es su campaña más goleadora en Primera División desde 1997-98, aunque no marque ningún tanto en los últimos cinco encuentros.
A falta de ese número de partidos para el cierre de la competición, el conjunto rojiblanco ya suma 67 dianas. No había batido tantas veces la portería contraria en este momento del campeonato desde 1997-98, también con 67, pero ni siquiera había logrado ese número de goles al final de la Liga desde esa temporada.
Así ocurrió el pasado curso, cuando cerró el torneo con 66 tantos; en 2006-07 (46); en 2005-06 (45); en 2004-05 (40); en 2003-04 (51); en 2002-03 (51); en 1999-2000 (48) y en 1998-99 (54), por lo que esta Liga ya es la más goleadora del Atlético desde 1997-98, cuando terminó la campaña con 79 dianas.
Esta temporada liguera ya acumula 67 goles a favor, una cifra liderada por el uruguayo Diego Forlán, que ha firmado 23 tantos, seguido por el argentino Sergio 'Kun' Agüero, con 15. Entre ambos han marcado 38 dianas, más de la mitad de las conseguidas por el conjunto rojiblanco en la actual campaña de Liga.
El portugués Simao Sabrosa, con siete; el argentino Maxi Rodríguez, con seis; el francés Florent Sinama Pongolle, con cinco; el holandés John Heitinga, con tres; Antonio López, con dos; Pablo Ibáñez, Maniche, Raúl García y Éver Banega, con uno, además de los tantos en propia puerta de José Antonio García Calvo (Valladolid) y David Cortés (Getafe), completan la nómina de goleadores atléticos.
En contraste ha recibido 54 goles, sus peores cifras a estas alturas en ese aspecto desde la campaña del descenso a Segunda División, en 1999-2000, cuando llegó a la trigésimo tercera jornada con 55 tantos en contra.
Incluso, no le batieron su portería tantas veces al final de Liga desde hace seis temporadas, en 2002-03, cuando cerró el campeonato con 56 dianas en contra. Ni en 2007-08 ni en 2006-07 ni en 2005-06 ni en 2004-05 ni en 2003-04, cuando terminó el torneo con 47, 39, 37, 34 y 53 goles encajados, respectivamente.
