La presidenta chilena, Michelle Bachelet, invitó hoy al mandatario electo, el derechista Sebastián Piñera, a la Cumbre del Grupo de Río que se celebrará el próximo 21 de febrero en Cancún (México), en la que Chile asumirá la presidencia temporal de esa organización.
En el marco de ese viaje, la presidenta también tiene previsto visitar Haití, según anunció días atrás, tras el terremoto que asoló el país caribeño, donde trabajan más de 500 integrantes de las Fuerzas Armadas chilenas.
Bachelet llamó este domingo por teléfono a Sebastián Piñera para felicitarlo por su triunfo en las urnas y hoy visitó al presidente electo en su domicilio, del que se retiró sin hacer declaraciones tras 40 minutos.
La mandataria, que entregará el mando a Piñera el próximo 11 de marzo, visitó después en su casa al derrotado candidato oficialista, Eduardo Frei, y sólo al llegar al palacio presidencial de La Moneda anunció parte del contenido de esas conversaciones.
"He invitado a Sebastián Piñera que me acompañe a la Cumbre de Río, donde tendrá la oportunidad de interactuar y ser presentado a los mandatarios de la región", dijo Bachelet, quien reiteró su intención de gobernar "hasta el último día".
"Tuve ocasión de honrar una tradición republicana y visitar al candidato ganador y le he dicho que gobernaremos hasta el último día sin descanso porque ese es nuestro compromiso con Chile y con nuestra gente", indicó.
Bachelet también saludó al ex candidato oficialista Eduardo Frei, perdedor de los comicios, "en representación de millones de chilenas y chilenos que vieron en él al representante de un país con mayor equidad y progreso".
"Para mí es motivo de orgullo que, más allá de los resultados, el Gobierno entregará en marzo un país sano, con instituciones consolidadas, con una economía creciendo, con un sistema de protección social que acoge a quienes más lo necesitan", enfatizó.
