El presidente de la Reserva Federal, Ben Bernanke, defenderá hoy en un discurso la necesidad de reformar el sistema financiero para evitar que se reproduzcan una crisis como la actual, según medios financieros.
El responsable de la máxima autoridad monetaria de EE.UU. dará a conocer su opinión ante la conferencia anual del banco de la Reserva de Boston.
Ya hace unas semanas, al cumplirse el primer aniversario de la bancarrota del banco Lehman Brothers, Bernanke pidió en un discurso pronunciado en Washington acciones "urgentes" para subsanar las debilidades "estructurales" del marco regulador, cuyas carencias condujeron a esta crisis.
"Debemos abordar de forma urgente las debilidades estructurales del sistema financiero, en particular en el marco regulador, para garantizar que no sufrimos de nuevo los costos enormes de los últimos dos años", señaló entonces Bernanke.
Para el presidente de la Fed, un experto en la Gran Depresión, la historia económica muestra que en el pasado las autoridades respondieron de forma "lenta e inadecuada" a las crisis económicas, pero en este caso dijo que hubo una reacción "rápida y enérgica" en todo el mundo.
A su juicio, la situación actual demuestra el impacto "enorme" de una crisis bancaria sobre la economía y subraya que los transtornos financieros "no conocen fronteras".
