El escolta Kobe Bryant logró su gran sueño de proclamarse campeón de liga como único líder de Los Ángeles Lakers después de vencer por 86-99 a los Magic de Orlando en el quinto partido de las Finales de la NBA que ganaron por 4-1.
Su gran actuación individual esta vez le supuso también alcanzar el premio Bill Russell de Jugador Más Valioso (MVP) de las Finales, el primero que consiguió como profesional.
Bryant, de 30 años, ya tenía en su poder tres títulos de liga consecutivos logrados desde 2000 a 2002, pero los logró compartiendo el liderazgo con el pívot Shaquille O'Neal y nunca conformó por no haber recibido los honores del MVP.
"No es ninguna vindicación, es el reconocimiento a todo el gran trabajo y esfuerzo que hemos hecho como equipo desde que perdimos las Finales de 2003 ante los Pistons de Detroit", declaró Bryant. "Tuve la suerte de vivir la reconstrucción del equipo y éste el momento más maravilloso de mi carrera profesional".
Bryant volvió a liderar a los Lakers con una gran actuación individual, pues anotó 30 puntos (10 de 23 tiros de campo, incluidos 2-5 triples y 8-8 desde la línea de personal), capturó seis rebotes, repartió cinco asistencias, puso cuatro tapones y recuperó dos balones.
"Este título lo significa todo para mí", declaró Bryant. "Es la compensación a un gran reto y muchos sacrificios de todo el equipo", comentó al llevarse el premio de Bill Russell de MVP, mientras en el Amway Arena los aficionados coreaban su nombre.
El nuevo MVP de las Finales de la NBA concluyó la serie de cinco partidos con unos promedios de 30,1 puntos; 5,0 asistencias y 5.4 rebotes en 43 minutos de juego.
Bryant también se convirtió en el primer jugador en la historia de la NBA que logró en siete partidos consecutivos de la fase final del campeonato ocho o más asistencias.
