Gas Natural ha llegado a un acuerdo con Sinca Inbursa, sociedad de inversión de capitales propiedad del magnate mexicano Carlos Slim, para que esta última compre el 15% de Gas Natural México por unos 760,8 millones de pesos mexicanos, unos 47 millones de euros.
Según ha informado hoy Gas Natural, el acuerdo estratégico permitirá a la compañía energética acelerar su crecimiento en México, donde es el principal distribuidor de gas, el segundo operador privado de generación eléctrica y el único operador de gas y electricidad.
Se da la circunstancia de que Criteria -filial de La Caixa y que tiene un 35,5% de Gas Natural-, alcanzó a finales del mes de mayo un principio de acuerdo con la sociedad mexicana Grupo Financiero Inbursa, controlada por la familia Slim, para tomar una participación del 20% de su capital social.
El presidente de Gas Natural, Salvador Gabarró, ha explicado que la compañía ha hecho una "apuesta estratégica" por el mercado mexicano, que cuenta con un importante "potencial de crecimiento".
En las próximas semanas se realizará un proceso de 'due diligence' -el proceso jurídico y de análisis financiero previo a cualquier operación de compraventa-, a partir del cual ambas sociedades tomarán una decisión en firme sobre la operación, que está sujeta a la aprobación de la Comisión Federal de Competencia de México.
En estos momentos, el capital social de Gas Natural México está participado en un 86,75% por Gas Natural y en un 13,25% por Iberdrola y, si se formaliza la operación, Gas Natural pasará a tener un 71,15% de su filial mexicana y mantendrá el control de la gestión.
Para el consejero delegado de Gas Natural, Rafael Villaseca, la entrada de un socio estratégico como Inbursa en el capital de Gas Natural México, además de "acelerar el crecimiento del grupo" en este país, supone un "gran paso" en el cumplimiento del plan estratégico 2008-2012, que tiene en México uno de sus principales objetivos.
