El mandatario de Ecuador, Rafael Correa, tachó hoy de "irresponsable" al conductor del autobús que esta madrugada tuvo un accidente en una carretera de la provincia de Manabí (Pacífico Central), en el que murieron unas 30 personas y 25 quedaron heridas.
"La irresponsabilidad del chófer que se ha estrellado con más de 70 pasajeros, es decir ha recogido pasajeros en el camino, lo cual está prohibido. La cooperativa tendrá las sanciones del caso", dijo el mandatario, en unas declaraciones recogidas en la web de la Presidencia.
El accidente tuvo lugar en la provincia costera de Manabí, donde el autobús que cubría una línea regular interurbana por la vía Flavio Alfaro-El Carmen cayó por un abismo a la altura del sector de Crespa, indicó a Efe una portavoz del cuerpo policial.
Correa lamentó este trágico suceso que, según fuentes policiales, dejó 25 heridos y más de una treintena de fallecidos. Hasta el momento no hay una cifra exacta de víctimas mortales.
El presidente ecuatoriano dijo que los culpables deberán de asumir sus responsabilidades y lamentó especialmente que este hecho haya sucedido en estas fechas, lo que "enluta la época navideña".
Correa dio estas declaraciones en una breve intervención en el Palacio Carandolet, en el brindis navideño que cada año hace con los funcionarios que trabajan ahí.
