El precio del petróleo de la Organización de Países Exportadores de Petróleo (OPEP) se vendió a 128,56 dólares por barril el viernes, 88 centavos menos que la jornada anterior, informó hoy en Viena el secretariado de la organización petrolera.
Al cotizar en toda la semana pasada a una media de 129,04 dólares, este barril (de 159 litros), usado como referencia por la OPEP y calculado en base a una mezcla de trece calidades de crudo (una por cada país miembro), se mantiene en zona de máximos.
Hace un año, se vendía a menos de 68 dólares, por lo que su encarecimiento interanual es del 90 por ciento.
Los analistas relacionan la ligera bajada del viernes al anuncio de Arabia Saudí de que aumentará su producción a partir de julio en 200.000 barriles diarios, hasta los 9,7 millones de barriles diarios, una decisión adoptada en vísperas de la cumbre sobre el petróleo celebrada ayer en Yeda.
A pesar del mensaje tranquilizador a los mercados desde esa ciudad del reino wahabí, los expertos se muestran escépticos de que surta el efecto deseado de bajar los precios, puesto que también quedó patente en esta cita que no hay soluciones rápidas ni fáciles a los desafíos que plantea el abastecimiento energético del planeta.
Los productores, incluso aquellos que se mostraron dispuestos a aumentar su oferta (Arabia Saudí, Kuwait y los Emiratos Árabes Unidos), atribuyeron la escalada del valor del petróleo a factores como la especulación, la creciente demanda y los altos impuestos sobre esa materia prima y sus derivados en las naciones industrializadas.
