Cerca de dos millones de parados no cobraban ningún tipo de prestación por desempleo o subsidio durante 2013, una cifra que representa el 40% de los 4,8 millones de personas que estaban registradas en las oficinas de los servicios públicos de empleo, la tasa más alta de los últimos nueve años.
Según los últimos datos del Ministerio de Empleo y Seguridad Social, el año pasado sólo 2,86 millones de personas en paro percibían algún tipo de prestación por desempleo, ya fuera la contributiva, la asistencial o la renta activa de inserción. La tasa de cobertura del sistema de protección por desempleo, que se calcula sólo teniendo en cuenta el número de desempleados que han trabajado en alguna ocasión, alcanzó en 2013 el 62,26%.
Esta tasa es la más baja desde 2004, cuando se situó en el 61,48% al percibirla 1,2 millones de personas, si bien tan sólo 2,1 millones de españoles engrosaban las listas del paro.
Desde 2004, la cobertura del sistema de protección por desempleo aumentó paulatinamente hasta 2010 cuando tres millones de españoles recibían este tipo de ayudas, y, a partir de entonces, su número se ha mantenido ligeramente por debajo.
Sin embargo, el número de personas desempleadas inscritas en los servicios públicos de empleo ha seguido aumentando hasta llegar a los 4,7 millones al cierre de 2013, si bien este dato no contabiliza a quienes no se registran en las listas del paro llevados por un efecto desánimo ante la falta de oportunidades laborales o porque ya no perciben ningún tipo de prestación.
Medido por la Encuesta de población Activa (EPA) el paro se situó en 5,89 millones de personas el año pasado.
