El gimnasta olímpico Gervasio Deferr aseguró esta mañana ante el presidente del Gobierno, Jose Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, y parte de la delegación española para los Juegos de Pekín, que todos los deportistas harán "un esfuerzo muy grande para lograr buenos resultados".
Deferr, que presentó este acto de despedida para el equipo olímpico español, también dirigió palabras de agradecimiento para las autoridades presentes, como el propio Presidente, el secretario de Estado para el Deporte, Jaime Lissavetzky; la ministra de Educación, Política Social y Deporte, Mercedes Cabrera, o el presidente del Comité Olímpico Español, Alejandro Blanco.
Asimismo, el gimnasta catalán aclaró el por qué de su renuncia a ser el abanderado para la ceremonia de inauguración de los Juegos: "Es una pena y me sabe muy mal, porque es un momento especial, pero lo hago por incompatibilidad de horarios y por la preparación para la competición", que es al día siguiente, "temprano".
El abanderado será el remero gallego David Cal, a continuación de Deferr en el medallero olímpico.
Gervasio aprovechó para felicitar al equipo de hockey hierba "que ha solventado el problema con Azerbaiyán", al ser fueron acusadas de dopaje, pero lograron demostrar su inocencia y participarán en la cita china.
